The Theme and Style of Beowulf                 Interpretations of Beowulf’s theme vary much more than commentary on the poet’s style. In this essay I hope to state clearly some of the popularly mentioned themes running through the poem, and to carefully delineate many aspects of the author’s style.  â€Å"Many critics feel that the speech of Hrothgar between lines 1700 and 1784 encapsulates the moral of the poem†¦.’He does not know the worse – till inside him great arrogance grows and spreads’†(Shippey 38). Is the theme of the poem that pride kills? Hrothgar’s ominous words do come back to haunt the hero more than once. Beowulf is a braggart; he is proud, and nothing seems able to change his basic proud outlook derived from his all-powerful physical strength. Even shortly before his own defeat against the fire-dragon, our hero is recalling his killing of the great hero of the Hugas with his bare hands:  ever since the time,                              in front of the hosts, I slew Daeghrefn,                                 the champion of the Hugas, with my bare hands.                             He never brought back his breast-ornament                             to the Frisian king: the standard-bearer                             fell in combat a prince, in valor;                                 no edge killed him my hand-grip crushed                          his beating heart, his life’s bone-house (2501-09).  Yes, Beowulf was full of pride and self-confidence; this made him impetuous in his actions. The Big Bang Theory The Chumash, Japanese, And The Chinese
Humans all around the world may be curious about how life started in the past. One might believe some type of god brought them here, while the average geologist would think the big bang theory began the outline of life. There are several stories on how the creation of life began, including: the Chumash, Japanese, and the Chinese. The Chumash creation story began with the indigenous population from Southern California. The Chumash story included the spotted woodpecker, the nephew of Kaqunupenawa, and the Sun God. The woodpecker notices increase rate of water and flew to the highest tree branch available. As the woodpecker dealt with constant starvation, the Sun God gave up several acorns. Soon after as the flood stopped, a meeting began with the Sun God, the Morning Star, the Moon, and Slo’w the Great Eagle about populating earth with new people. This may sound unrealistic for an animal, a star, a â€Å"Sun†God to meet up and discuss the creation of new people. The Eart h Goddess, Hutash, created too large of a population and had no choice, but to send some people to the mainland. Hutash created a rainbow bridge, Wishtoyo, so that the people could walk across. However, several fell off the bridge, but Hutash turned them into dolphins to prevent them from drowning. Ever since, the Chumash viewed the dolphins as family since they were all once the same. This creation story was incredibly interesting but awkward at the same time.
